The Power Challenge
Like many companies developing sophisticated and innovative electronic products, Lunar Energy needed advanced test instrumentation that offered the right combination of flexibility, cost-efficiency, customization and power performance to test multiple devices. In addition, floor space for Lunar Energy was also at a premium so power density would be an essential criterion for any instrumentation eventually selected.
EA Elektro-Automatik showed the team at Lunar Energy how the EA PSB bidirectional DC power series could perform as both a conventional power supply and a regenerative load. The regenerative feature offers a 96% return on energy while competing products only offer 84-92%. In addition, “true” autoranging allowed complete source and sink power over a more comprehensive operating range, allowing Lunar Energy to buy fewer test instruments that could be used to test a broader range of devices.
The EA PSB series can also parallel different EA units to achieve higher power outputs of up to 100 kW. The EA Elektro-Automatik products they chose were PSB 10000 2U chassis, 3U chassis and 4U chassis in 3-30 kW
Product Description
The PSB series bidirectional DC programmable power supply with integrated, regenerative electronic load can sink (absorb) current and recover up to 96% of current, returning it to the local power grid. EA’s high-power density bidirectional power supplies:
